Desiré Wright

I completed my BA Journalism degree in 2007 at the University of Pretoria, continuing on to a National Diploma in Ecotourism Management (cum laude) at Tshwane University of Technology.

In 2010 I started my career as a community journalist in Hoedspruit, Limpopo Province at Kruger2Canyon News where my love of nature grew into a passion for community work. In 2015 I was recruited to Hoedspruit Training Trust (Hlokomela), an award-winning non-profit organisation in the healthcare sector, based in Hoedspruit, as the Director’s personal assistant. After two years I was promoted to Human Resource Manager, and I completed a short course in 2019 at the University of Cape Town in Human Resource Management. 

In 2022 I completed my training as a certified Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) Provider. This was a life-changing experience for me, opening my mind to the reality of not merely surviving, but thriving in life when unburdened of the things that weigh us down and hold us back from coming into our true selves. I am passionate about employee wellness, and it is a privilege to teach TRE to our staff at Hlokomela, people living with HIV, the community and game rangers and to see how it unlocks people’s potential.
