On the 27th of August, 4 of your 6 TRE Community Facilitators at WOZA MOYA NGO in iXopo received their certificates. The other two were absent that day and will receive theirs in September.
Robin Vanderplank and Su Thomas led 12 training days between July 2016 and March 2017 and three of them attended the Advanced Training in Durban.
From April 17 to August 2018 the trainees led a monthly TRE Wellness day for their fellow staff (all community carers, youth workers, social workers, craft and health workers ) all in all more than 50 staff members have learned how to use TRE for themselves.
They have also done two TRE Introductions to other NGO’s in the area and are now well equipped to take the work further.
Our wholehearted THANK YOU to Su Hedden and her team of directors and the board of WOZA MOYA for the support and enthusiasm, the logistics, the venue , the overnight stays and the great food !
All people have come to love the TRE wellness day which is not only exercises and tremoring but also resting and sharing. The sharing circle after the session is led by our facilitators and is a ‘talk and listen’ event where everyone has an opportunity to share the good and the not so good of their previous month. Everyone is being listened to and listens to everyone else. This is not a ‘giving advice’ exercise but a ‘we are in this together’ and ‘I am not alone’ experience which is valued by everyone.
Naturally after the TRE session it is much easier to talk and share and many a participants have marveled at how their headaches and pains disappeared. There is much laughter and many many hugs and Robin and I will miss being there. We will of course return as often as we can and always be there for guidance and ideas.
Khanyisani Chia who is now certified has translated the TRE Video into isiZulu, as well as several other teaching tools. Thank you Khanyisani.
